Excavación extends on my ongoing exploration in visual aftermath with relationship to human experience. Drawing on my interest in the forensic aesthetic, the series utilizes processes of investigation, uncovering, collection and documentation. During my time at Residencia Corazón I created work, which responded to the presence and absence of La Plata’s urban elements; providing a pertinent cross-cultural context to conceptualize and develop my artistic themes and narratives. Purposely exhibited as a chaotic collision point for several mediums, the series incorporates urban detritus, photography, performance and video. The lacerated poster installation is a contemporary take on Décollage as street posters have been collected, dissected and installed in an archeological format. The mixed media assemblages, which contain discarded objects and collected images act as personal memorabilia and nostalgic responses to social and cultural space. Documented encounters and gathered fragments were juxtaposed to create small mixed media evidence bags which signified the importance of each assembled form to reflect temporality and unknown histories. Many of the documented photographs explore my obsession with abandonment, transience and ruin including images of dogs, cars, trash and deteriorated space. The performative street intervention of laying concrete is a form of graffiti, however is structurally subtle and serves to not only rectify the sidewalk but to quietly respect the city of La Plata.
